The photgraphic museum 'Fotografiska' has after almost 70 years finally got a permanent building. This building, formerly a customs building was designed by Ferdinand Boberg and built 1906-1910. |

This bridge is usually called the old bridge, "Gamla Lidingöbron", before the new bridge was taken into use in 1971 this bridge had two railway tracks and cars and trains shared the same road space. Raul Wallenberg was a Swedish diplomat native of Lidingö. He is known to have saved the lives of thousands of Jews in Hungary from the Holocaust. Stora Torget in Visby was for centuries the very center of Visby. Since the late sixties business has moved out from the area inside the city wall, "ringmuren". Stora Torget is a much frequented place during the summer with numerous bars and restaurants. The most prominent building is still the ruin of S:t Catherine, which is open for visitors during the summer. |

Norderport means "The North Gate" and is located on the north part of Visby's city wall, "Ringmuren". Until the early 70's much traffic passed through here since most businesses were located inside the city wall. Today traffic is restricted especially during the summer. |

Österport means the "East Gate" is now closed for traffic. It is located were Hästgatan ends at the city wall. Hästgatan was one of the main streets in Visby with much traffic passing through Österport on its way out from the city center. |

The Mayday marches of the Swedish Social Democratic party finishes here at Norra Bantorget, with speeches. The monument is called "Brantingmonumentet" and is in commemoration of the well known Swedish Social Democratic Party leader Hjalmar Branting. At this square the Swedish Labour Union LO has its headquarters. |

The area now called Slussen was built in 1935 and was designed to solve the traffic problem that had increased as the city grew and vehicles became more common. Not only is there a lock for boats to pass between lake Mälaren and "Saltsjön" which is sea level and connected to the Baltic sea. There are also trains, subway trains and by car you can come from any of the seven directions and leave any of the seven directions without crossing another road. Slussen is now in decay and needs to be demolished and rebuilt. Read more about Slussen at Wikipedia. |
